(Self) Portrait of a Rabbi
2012

(Self) Portrait of a Rabbi is my attempt to explore what it means to be a young religious person living in the modern world. It gives a glimpse of 28 hours of my life lived at home, accompanying me through parts of my life other people rarely see.
The photographs in this exhibit are meant to explore basic questions we all face, such as what is holy and what is mundane? Which moments are authentic, which are for show? Which of these are moments of deep spiritual connection, which of them feel empty?
The process of shooting these photographs elicited its own set of questions, the most striking being: Can kavana (sincere religious intention) co-exist with art?
